ISSUES OF INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CORRIDORS WERE DISCUSSED IN TURKMENISTAN

On February 29, 2016 in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza" Turkmenistan hosted five-sided meeting between rail and maritime agencies of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Georgia with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The issues of the development of multi-modal transport corridor "East-West", joint measures for increasing the transit traffic within the framework of solving the actual problem of the formation of effective transport corridors as a basis for the development of infrastructure of regional and interregional cooperation were included on the agenda of this international meeting. The participants listened carefully to the presentations on existing in their countries' transport infrastructure.
Speakers at the forum stressed the importance of this meeting in establishing an enabling environment for partnership and noted the positive contribution of Turkmenistan in the formation of a new architecture of international relations on the basis of balanced and sustainable development, in which the important role is given to the improvement and diversification of combined transport systems with innovative logistics infrastructure.
Parties, reaffirming previously adopted international obligations in the field of transport, have undertaken a number of new obligations. Among them - the further strengthening of economic and scientific-technical cooperation in this field, the formation of transnational networks with high efficiency of cargo between countries and regions of the Eurasian continent, the choice of optimal routes and effective interaction between different modes of transport. In addition, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity each of the parties is ready to provide in its territory conditions for the functioning of all modes of transport of other parties.
