A meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation was held in Moscow

On August 28, 2025, a meeting was held in Moscow between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

The heads of the foreign policy agencies noted with satisfaction the fruitful nature of the interstate dialogue, built on the principles of in-depth strategic partnership.

Having emphasized the key role of contacts at high and the highest levels, the sides agreed that these meetings serves as the main factor in strengthening bilateral cooperation with a long-term perspective.

The significance of 2025 - the International Year of Peace and Trust in the history of the two countries was noted: this year marks 30 years of the legal status of permanent positive Neutrality of Turkmenistan and 80 years since the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

During the talks, a constructive dialogue took place on key areas of the bilateral agenda, in particular, the sides analyzed and assessed the current state of political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian cooperation, reviewed the progress of implementing previously reached agreements, and discussed joint actions for the future.

In the context of cooperation between the foreign ministries, the diplomats considered the practical implementation of the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for 2025-2026, signed during the official visit of Minister S. Lavrov to Ashgabat in June this year.

The common intent to intensify trade and economic cooperation was expressed. The Ministers emphasized that the activities of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, on the platform of which specific plans and projects are being implemented, serves as an effective mechanism for interstate dialogue of a sustainable and long-term mode.

According to the mutual opinion of the sides, the fields of science, education, culture and art have become an effective tool for bringing together the friendly Turkmen and Russian peoples.

During the meeting, the positive experience of joint work within the framework of international organizations was noted. The fruitful nature of the Turkmen-Russian partnership at the UN, CIS, Caspian “Five”, and the “Central Asia – Russia” format was emphasized.

Particular attention was paid to the development of five-sided cooperation in the Caspian region. At the same time, it was noted that today the problems of the Caspian go far beyond the regional framework and require a comprehensive international approach, primarily at the UN level.

The diplomats voiced the mutual readiness of the sides to continue to enhance multilateral cooperation.
