Turkmen epic "GOROGLY" included in the list of intangible cultural heritage

UNESCO Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, at a meeting in Namibia has inscribed 15 new elements on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, among them - the application submitted by the Turkmen epic "Gorogly".

A press release from the UNESCO Committee explained that "epic" Gorogly "- a tradition of oral stories describing the exploits of the legendary hero Gorogly and his forty horsemen. Keepers of the tradition in Turkmenistan are tellers of the epic genre. Performance includes the narration, singing, vocal improvisation and music ".

The Turkmen people carried through the centuries the heroic epic and dessans, which expressed an ideal, a dream of happiness, free life, they are full of profound wisdom, the bright joyous, pleasing, and today the hearts of people, as evidenced by the inclusion of the epic "Gorogly" in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. 

In the list were added as various traditions of the peoples of Korea, Greece, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia, Namibia, Peru, Romania, Slovakia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, UAE and others. Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage today includes 314 objects.
