Meeting with the Regional Representative of the UN OHCHR for Central Asia
On 4 September 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov met with Matilda Bogner, Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia (OHCHR).
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and OHCHR. In this context, it was highlighted that Turkmenistan carries out multifaceted partnership with relevant international organizations with the aim of further improvement of democratic institutions and effective fulfillment of its human rights obligations.
The work of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Fulfillment of International Human Rights Obligations and International Humanitarian Law was reviewed.
They also discussed the implementation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 and National Action Plan for Realization of Children's Rights in Turkmenistan for 2023-2028.
The participants of the meeting discussed the results of the dialogues held within the framework of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Committee on the Rights of the Child, and also underlined their intention to cooperate systematically on the application of the recommendations given upon the completion of the dialogues.
The interlocutors expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the United Nations in the area of human rights education.
